Man and Woman Cooking Food by a Fire

Spring is on its way and Wisconsinites are ready for a break from the cold temperatures and the snow. If you have a backyard fire pit in your yard, we know you are probably ready to get outside and enjoy some fun nights by the fire with family and friends. We want to help you get the most out of your Fox River Fire Ring this season with a list of 5 Fun Things To Do Around Your Backyard Fire Pit in Spring.

Best Ways to Enjoy Your Backyard Fire Pit in Spring

The weather in spring can be complicated — especially in Wisconsin and the rest of the Midwest United States. Monday it may be cold and windy with snow flurries, Wednesday you may have two inches of snow on the ground, and by Friday it may be 60 degrees outside, the sun is shining, all the snow is gone, and you are grilling out on your backyard deck. With unpredictable weather, you may not have a lot of spring opportunities to spend by the fire and you need to make the most of those beautiful spring evenings.

Here are a few of our favorite things to do around our backyard fire pit in the spring:

1. Make S’Mores

We decided to start our list with a fan favorite — s’mores. All you need are some graham crackers, some marshmallows, and some Hershey’s chocolate bars. Roast your marshmallows over the fire, and make a delicious gooey sandwich with the graham crackers and chocolate bar. You can kick your s’mores up a notch and use a chocolate chip cookie instead of graham cracker or use different candy bars like a Butterfinger or Twix instead of the standard chocolate bar.

2. Look at the Stars

Whether you are in your backyard or at your cabin around the fire pit, it is a great time to sit back and enjoy the night sky. If you live in the Midwest, spring is an excellent time to see a variety of different star constellations. In the spring, you can look up and see Ursa Major, Leo, Cancer, Virgo, Hydra, and Boötes.

3. Cook Around the Fire

When you have good weather in early spring, take advantage of it and have a cookout around the fire. There are a lot of delicious meals you can cook around the fire with just a cast iron skillet or a dutch oven. If you invest in a grill grate for your campfire, you have even more options from steaks and burgers to corn on the cob.

4. Wine and Spring Cocktails

Two Wine Glasses in Front of a Fire

This one is for the adults in the group. Celebrate a few warm spring days and have friends and family over for a wine party around the campfire. Everyone brings a bottle of wine to share from their favorite vineyard and let the fun and laughter flow. If you want to add a little more fun to your get together, grab the ingredients and mix up some delicious spring cocktails like a Cherry Spritz, Pineapple Basil Smash, or a Ray of Sunshine.

5. Outdoor Movie Night

Take your Friday night to the next level this spring with a movie night in your backyard. Grab a large white sheet, a projector, a laptop, and a speaker and you can watch your favorite movie right next to the fire. This is a fun thing to do when you have kids. Get them out of the house, away from their tablets, and watch a movie together while you are cozied up by the fire.
